Visiting Tips for Members

Hours

Remember: the Museum extends its hours during July and August and during Massachusetts school vacation weeks. View Museum hours and special notices .

Membership Card and ID

Bring your valid membership card with you. You'll need it to receive all your benefits. Remember that membership benefits are not transferable.
Renewing your membership or wish to purchase one as a gift?
Do it ahead of time by clicking here or by calling the membership office at 617-589-0180 or Science Central at 617-723-2500, TTY/TDD 617-589-0417. You can also visit the membership booth or box office in the main lobby during slow periods at the Museum (mornings, evenings, or non-holidays) to avoid waiting in lines.

Tickets and Free Passes

Purchase tickets at the Museum:
Why wait in line? If you are using a credit card, you may purchase tickets for all venues directly from the kiosks in the main lobby. Please note: the ticket kiosks cannot accept discount passes or coupons. You may purchase tickets and exchange passes at the Museum box office. Bypass the (red) general public line and follow the bright green cues to Members Express. Only one member of your party needs to go to the box office.

Ordering tickets in advance Shows can sell out quickly, especially around the holidays and during Massachusetts school vacation weeks. We strongly recommend advance reservations to avoid disappointment. It's easy and members never pay a service charge.

There are two ways to reserve tickets:
1) Order online

  • Have your membership card and credit card (MC, Visa, or AMEX) ready.
  • Remember, discount passes and coupons cannot be redeemed online.

2) Order by Phone: 617-723-2500

  • Have your membership card and credit card ready.
  • Members may apply their free passes when ordering by phone.
  • Phone lines get busy during the holidays and Massachusetts school vacation weeks. To avoid hold time, order at least a week in advance and try calling between 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Picking up reserved tickets
Bypass the lines at the Box Office; tickets reserved with a credit card (and without using passes) may be picked up at one of the ticket kiosks in the main lobby. Simply swipe the same credit card you used to place your order and your tickets will pop right out!

To redeem passes for reserved tickets, you must go to the Museum box office or membership booth. Be sure to bring your confirmation number and your passes.

Parking and getting here

As a member, you receive a discount when you park in the Museum garage. View garage prices, hours, and special notices. Be sure to bring your garage ticket with you into the Museum. As you leave, visit the parking kiosks in the concourse and follow the directions to pay for parking and receive your discount. All kiosks accept credit card payment; some also accept cash. After paying, you have up to 20 minutes to exit the garage.

You will need your permanent, current membership card to receive your discount. If you do not have your permanent card with you, stop by the Membership Booth or the box office to get a "chaser" ticket, which will ensure you receive your discount for this visit.

The Museum garage fills up on busy days and parking cannot be guaranteed. Occasionally, we may have to close the garage temporarily until space becomes available. For safety reasons, cars can not be permitted to wait in the driveway or on the highway. If you have passengers with special needs, you may drop them off at the main entrance to the Museum.

During MA school vacation weeks and other predictably busy times, we suggest taking public transportation. Learn more (PDF) about the MBTA's service to the Museum. If you will be driving, we recommend arriving early (before 10:30 a.m.) or late (after 3:00 p.m.) for best parking availability. Allow yourself sufficient time to park, pick up your tickets, and get to your show as late entries are not permitted. If the Museum garage is full, you might try parking in the Cambridgeside Galleria area or around the TD Banknorth Garden, however, please be aware that your member discount cannot be extended to other parking facilities.
